The University of Edinburgh Convenes Autumn Convocation at Historic McEwan Hall

The University of Edinburgh opened its 2026/27 academic session today at the magnificent McEwan Hall in Bristo Square.

Principal and Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir Peter Mathieson highlighted Edinburgh's role as a global beacon of Scottish Enlightenment inquiry: "From David Hume and Charles Darwin to Sophia Jex-Blake and Peter Higgs, Edinburgh thinkers have consistently reshaped our understanding of the universe. To our incoming class: you now inherit this proud legacy of relentless curiosity and public service."

The University reported record enrollments in Informatics, Climate Science, Biotechnology, and its suite of open-access digital graduate degrees.
