The University of Edinburgh and Stellenbosch Roll Out MSc in FinTech & Cross-Border Digital Banking to Power PAPSS Adoption

The Pan-African Payment and Settlement System (PAPSS) has dramatically lowered the friction and foreign exchange costs of intra-African trade. To supply the specialized technical and regulatory talent required by commercial banks and fintech innovators, The University of Edinburgh and Stellenbosch University have introduced the dual MSc in FinTech & Cross-Border Digital Banking.

The program bridges distributed ledger architectures, open banking APIs, ISO 20022 messaging standards, and regulatory sandbox compliance. Students analyze live financial datasets and prototype multi-currency micro-settlement mechanisms.

"Financial inclusion in Africa requires modernizing cross-border banking infrastructure so that an entrepreneur in Nairobi can pay a supplier in Abidjan instantly in local currency," highlighted the Program Director. "Our dual MSc with Stellenbosch provides both the deep computer engineering foundations and the banking compliance credentials required by modern financial institutions."

Students graduate with two master's degrees and direct connections to pan-African financial institutions and venture-backed fintech startups.
